Time counts while you actively study
The timer runs while a course is on your screen and you are reading, answering questions or playing a lesson video. It pauses when the course is out of view or after 5 minutes with no activity.

The timer runs while a course is on your screen and you are reading, answering questions or playing a lesson video. It pauses when the course is out of view or after 5 minutes with no activity.
The minimum study time, every lesson viewed in order, a passing score on the final exam if the course has one, and a signed completion attestation. The attestation comes last. Signing it completes the course, and your certificate is issued once every requirement is met.
Verify your email and add your legal name for certificates. A course that carries CLE hours also needs a CLEET license on file that is verified, pending review or expiring. Employers can confirm a certificate at /verify with its certificate number and verification code.
Add Your Legal Name Add Your License Verify a CertificateFinishing a course does not end your access. You can reopen its lessons to review them anytime. Each course earns its certificate and CLE hours once, so review adds no credit.
My Courses PurchasesA course with lessons needs four things: the minimum study time, every lesson viewed in order, a passing score on the final exam if it has one, and a signed completion attestation. Lessons open one after another, and the final exam opens after the last lesson. A packaged interactive course uses the assessment inside it instead of lessons and an exam, and a PDF course asks you to confirm that you have read it.
Study time counts while the course is on your screen and you are working in it: reading, scrolling, answering questions or playing a lesson video. After 5 minutes with no activity, the timer pauses until you continue. It also pauses while the course is in a hidden tab or the app is in the background, and a course open in two tabs does not count twice.
Each course has a minimum study time. Unless SCOPE sets a different minimum for a course, it is 60 minutes for each CLE hour, so a 2-hour course needs 120 minutes. The study time meter in the course shows your progress. Time spent reviewing a course after you complete it is not added.
A course finishes only when all of its steps are done. If the study time meter shows that more time is needed, keep reviewing the lessons, because that time counts. Once you reach the minimum, the completion attestation opens so you can sign it and receive your certificate. For a course that carries CLE hours, add your CLEET license before you sign.
Each course sets its own exam rules, and the course page lists them: the number of questions, the passing score, how many attempts are allowed and any time limit. Some courses also set a wait between attempts. Unless a course sets a limit, attempts are unlimited and the exam is untimed. On a timed exam the timer keeps running if you leave the page, and your saved answers are graded when time runs out. Once your course is complete, you can take the exam again as practice, which does not change your record.
After an attempt that does not pass, you see your score and the topics to review, but not the answers. Once you pass, the course page shows each of your attempts with your answers, the correct answers and any explanations. An attempt voided by SCOPE staff is marked Voided and does not count toward your attempts.
It is the last step of every course. You read a short statement confirming that you completed the course yourself, then sign it by typing your legal name. SCOPE keeps the signed statement with your course record. Signing it completes the course, and your certificate is issued once every requirement is met.
Your certificate shows who earned the credit, so it is issued in your legal name. Add it in your portal Settings under Legal name for certificates. The name is locked once a certificate is issued in it, so contact SCOPE if it needs a correction. For a course that carries CLE hours, you also need a CLEET license on file in your profile under Certifications. A license that is verified, pending review or expiring qualifies; an expired or rejected license does not.
You can enroll and start studying before you verify your email address. Saving your legal name, submitting an exam or course assessment, signing the attestation and completing a course all need a verified email. If the verification link has not arrived, send a new one from the Verify Email page.
Yes. Finishing a course does not end your access, so you can reopen its lessons to review them anytime. Each course earns its certificate and CLE hours once, so reviewing a course does not add hours or issue a second certificate.
When you complete a course, its CLE hours post to your transcript and a certificate is issued in your legal name. Your transcript shows hours earned in the SCOPE Academy only. Open the Transcript tab and choose Printable Transcript to print it or save it as a PDF.
CLEET sets how many hours your license needs and which activities count, so confirm your requirement with CLEET. SCOPE shows the hours you earn in the SCOPE Academy by year and by license period. Hours from other providers are not included. Add your license issue and expiry dates to your profile to see the hours in each license period.
Each course is marked Free, Members, or Paid. Free courses are open to anyone with an account. Members courses are open to verified SCOPE members and to anyone with a CLEET license on file that is verified, pending review or expiring. A paid course shows a Buy button while online checkout is open for it; otherwise, contact SCOPE for access. If your access to a course ends, any certificate and CLE hours you already earned stay on your record.
Open Purchases in the Academy menu, or Academy purchases in your portal settings. Each purchase has a receipt you can print or save as a PDF. Receipts show the amount paid and any refunds.
Refunds follow the refund policy in the Terms of Use. To ask for one, open the purchase under Purchases and send a refund request. SCOPE staff review each request.
Open the Certificates tab, select View / Print on a certificate, then choose Print / Save as PDF. Each certificate has a verification number that anyone can check on the SCOPE verification page.
To show that the credit on a certificate was earned by the person named on it, SCOPE records your active study time, the lessons you view, your exam attempts and your signed attestation. The IP address and browser details of the device you use are recorded with your study sessions and with enrollment, exam, attestation and certificate events.
